The Oscars 2012 - A lesson in Dressing for your shape

As The Oscars Red Carpet goes, this year was no different. The usual 'wow' moments and 'what was she thinking?' moments, seasoned with the red carpet drama moment - this year's being Sacha Baron Cohen spilling Kim Il Jong's ashes (not the real ones!) all over Ryan Seacrest. Yes, you read right.

My favourite moments are always seeing the women that get it right, celebrating their own body shape - not dressing for anyone else. Every woman has the ability to wear a dress in a way that makes her body look hot. For me this year it was Octavia Spencer.

Octavia Spencer ravishing in Tadashi Shoji
The style of the dress and placement of the sequins pulls everything into the waist, creating a beautiful silhouette. The detailing adds weight to the fabric, giving structure to the top of the dress which is exactly what a curvy woman needs.

Other winners for me were:

Michelle Williams is petite so opted for a pixie crop and lightweight fitted dress with peplum detail. This dress is perfect in every way for her. The placement of the peplum elongates her legs whilst the colour adds the drama required for such an event. I want this dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow simply exquisite in Tom Ford

Gwyneth Paltrow - Slim & Tall so opted for a fuss free sleek dress with cape for red-carpet drama.

Whatever your body shape, there is a dress that will bring out the very best in you. Who were your style inspirations from the red carpet?
